Dr. Glinski provides in person and virtual therapeutic services in the following areas:

Anxiety/Stress: This includes a range of problems and diagnoses including:

  • Generalized anxiety
  • Work/school-related stress
  • Relationship stress
  • Phobias/fears
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or OCD tendencies
  • Panic attacks
  • Social anxiety
  • Perfectionism
  • Test/Performance anxiety
  • School Avoidance

Depression: Depressive symptoms can range from mild “down” feelings to heightened irritability to major depressive disorder. Depression not only affects one’s mood. It also has physical manifestations, affects sleep/appetite, and can make a person feel unmotivated and disinterested in life. Suicidal feelings can also emerge and need to be monitored closely. Dr. Glinski has specialized training in assessment and treatment for depression and suicidality.

Adolescence: Adolescence is a particularly challenging stage of development that requires a sensitivity to the teen’s emerging need for (or fear of) autonomy. Today’s teens and their parents face a myriad of issues that can result in emotional distress- pressure to be “perfect,” the constant presence of social media, the ever-looming college application process, to name just a few. Because tension can run high between teens and their parents, it can often be helpful for teens to have another caring adult in their life with whom to discuss their struggles and successes. Parents of teens may find it difficult to balance supporting their teen’s independence while, at the same time, providing the structure, safety and connection their teen needs. Dr. Glinski can work with both teens and their parents to navigate these exciting, but challenging, years.

Parenting: Parents want what is best for their children, but it is sometimes difficult to know how to handle the challenges of child-rearing. Dr. Glinski can help guide parents, teaching them strategies and providing support in a variety of domains, including:

  • Increasing cooperation and a positive atmosphere in the home
  • Collaborative problem-solving
  • Bedtime and meal time routines
  • Developing house rules
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Reducing tantrums and other unwanted behaviors
  • Active listening and communication
  • Validation as a powerful tool for change
  • Managing parent-teen conflict
  • Academic struggles

Life Transitions / Challenges: When a person goes through a major life change (even a wanted one) or faces adversity, psychotherapy can help in the coping and healing process. Dr. Glinski can provide a nurturing environment in which to discuss these, and other, life changes:

  • Marriage, divorce, and break-ups
  • Pregnancy/ Birth of a child / adjustment to parenthood
  • Adoption
  • Discovering or sharing with others one’s sexual orientation
  • Bullying
  • Transition to college
  • Transition to the work force or to a new job / Career changes
  • Diagnosis of an illness, learning disability, or psychiatric disorder
  • Death of a loved one and other losses

Weight Loss Surgery: In 1999 Dr. Glinski was the first psychologist to be hired in the Department of Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center, and her task was to develop the psychological services component of the Center for Weight Reduction Surgery. These services included pre-operative psychological evaluations, short-term individual counseling, and pre- and post-operative support groups. Dr. Glinski also conducted research and published about the psychology of weight loss surgery.

Dr. Glinski carried this area of specialization to her private practice. She provides the following services:

  • Pre-operative psychological evaluations (which are often needed for insurance clearance)
  • Short-term pre-operative counseling with a specific focus on preparing for the lifestyle adjustment after surgery
  • Post-operative psychotherapy to address the unique psychological challenges that bariatric patients face
